Best of 2011 (So Far)

I have been lucky this year and a large proportion of my reads have been 5 star reads. Because I am a dork I know it is about 25% so far.  Here they are ranked from most favorite to, well, favorite.

  1. The Magicians: A Novel by Lev Grossman – Review
  2. The Passage: A Novel by Justin Cronin – Just look at the key words: Vampires, post-apocalyptic, dystopia, what is not to like.
  3. Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, Book 1) by Cassandra Clare – This was the book I wanted to read when I envisioned Steampunk. Victorian sensibilities mised with gears and gadgets and paranormal.
  4. Godmother: The Secret Cinderella Story by Carolyn Turgeon – Review
  5. Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, Book 3) by Jim Butcher – I will never forgive SyFy for not casting James Marsters in this and giving it more time.  But at least I have him reading the audio books.
  6. Monsters of Men: Chaos Walking: Book Three by Patrick Ness – I great end to this trilogy.
  7. Locke & Key V. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez; Locke & Key V.2: Head Games by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez; Locke & Key: Crown of Shadows by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez – Great art, compelling story, horror and supernatural and keys.

What is amazing here is how many of them lead to things I am excited for this year (or next).

  1. The Magician King: A Novel by Lev Grossman (Hardcover – Aug 9, 2011)
  2.  The Twelve by Justin Cronin (2012)
  3. Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices) by Cassandra Clare (Hardcover – Dec 6, 2011)
  4.  Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon
  5.  Looking forward reading Summer Knight even thought it has been out since 2002.
  6. Just downloaded The New World (FREE short story) to my Kindle app.
  7.  Locke & Key Volume 4: Keys to the Kingdom by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (Hardcover – Jul 5, 2011)

What have you read and what are you looking forward to reading?

  1. I just started listening to Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series on audio as well. I just finished the second one and can't wait to start the third. James Marsters is an awesome Harry.

    Great list! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I am a huge fan of Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices series. I'll definitely check out some of the other books you have on your favorites list as I hadn't heard of all of them and some of those titles seem really interesting!

    Happy Armchair BEA week!
