The Handmaid’s Tale

Someone recently asked me if I had read this book and if I was unsatisfied with the ending.  Actually, I couldn’t remember the ending.  I had to go back and read a plot summary of it.  So I guess I was ambivalent about the end.  I can remember large swaths of the book.  I can remember being horrified at the ideas in it. And I was naively relieved that a fundamentalist theocracy was not plausible in America.  Fast forward 20 years, add in modern American politics, and this story becomes much less “interesting dystopian fiction” and more scary possibility.
